Henry Charles Kersley 1863 - 1948 Henry Charles Kersley enlisted in the Army on the 21st April 1882, at the age of 20 years. He first enlisted in the Hampshire Regiment, then on the 30th September 1883, he transfered to the South Yorkshire Regiment (later The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry). He served in England and Ireland, from 21st April 1882 till 6th February 1883. He then served with the Regiment in India from 7th February 1883 to 20th December 1887 and then back to England, where he served to complete 21 years service,till 20th April 1903. His rank on discharge was Colour-Sergeant. At the outbreak of the First World War, Henry Charles, at the age of 50 years, re-enlisted with The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry,on 26th September 1914. He was finally discharged from the Army on the 24th June 1918. His rank then being A/Company Sergeant Major. Henry Charles went on to be a Chelsea Pensioner, his number being 41408. He was awarded the following medals:- India Medal with Clasp for Burma. Long Service & Good Conduct Medal. Meritorious Service Medal. British War Medal 1914 - 20.
